Fiducial reference measurements for greenhouse gases (FRM4GHG)

In partnership with 6 institutes (Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, University of Bremen, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, University of Wollongong, and Finnish Meteorological Institute), FRM4GHG is an ESA supported project that aims to provide intercomparison of instruments and data retrievals from new and established GHG observation ground based Infrared systems. The goal is to improve upon the harmonisation of GHG data products to support high quality validation of GHG satellite missions.

The project also aims to foster the establishment of new portable, more affordable, GHG observation systems to complement the existing networks like the Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON). Within this context, we are further developing a CH4 and CO2 thermal infrared laser heterodyne spectro-radiometer (LHR) and deploying it for measurement campaigns along the UK Harwell TCCON reference ground-based GHG measurement system. Within the project, we are further improving the LHR operation, as well as developing a novel optimum estimation retrieval software to generate data products.
